My name is Veronica Kelson and I have been teaching since 2007. I have taught second grade at The Academy since 2011. I first realized I wanted to teach elementary students when I was in high school working at an after school program. I love having the opportunity to teach children new ideas and experience the joy and wonderment of their reactions. I enjoy continuing my education to better serve the students I teach. Their success is my passion!
I attended Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison and earned my Bachelors degree for Interdisciplinary Studies and Spanish. I also earned a double licensure in teaching for Elementary and Linguistically Diverse Education. In May of 2013 I completed my Masters degree for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Regis University. I also earned an additional teaching licensure for Instructional Technology.
I enjoy being outdoors in our beautiful state with my family. Hiking, camping, snow shoeing, and exploring new places are the activities I pursue. Other hobbies I have include crocheting, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
My classroom management is based on Love and Logic and Whole Brain Teaching. I strive to ensure all students feel safe and cared for while in my classroom. It is important for the students to be treated with respect and kindness. Discipline in my classroom is focused on guiding the students to demonstrate their Wildcat Pride at all times and learning essential social skills they will need throughout life.
My classroom is unique for various reasons. All of my students are Super Improvers. They individually earn Pride Paws and Pride Punches to work up the levels and achieve rewards as they climb the ladder. I also have a daily class tally system for the entire room to "beat the teacher" and achieve a reward as a team.
I strive to make myself available to the needs of my students and their families. Please feel free to contact me whenever you feel the need.
